CAN-Bus sensors in focus

Besides automotive engineering, CAN bus has become established in many other applications. Fluid.iO CAN bus multisensors measure humidity, temperature, pressure, density, and viscosity in combination.

Typical CAN bus applications

The CAN bus is a powerful bus system that initially established itself in automotive engineering and has since become established in other sectors as well. A wide variety of applications can be implemented using the CAN bus, for example, in railway technology, shipbuilding and aviation, agricultural machinery, robotics, and even HVAC systems.

Therefore, our product range has also become very broad, encompassing pressure and temperature measurement technology, humidity sensors, and even viscosity and density sensors. We can, of course, customize these sensors to meet customer requirements.

DS-CAN pressure sensor

Pressure and temperature are among the most frequently measured parameters.

Let's take a look at the DS-CAN. This is our pressure sensor based on the positrinoid measuring principle with a stainless steel diaphragm. Its design is ideal for measuring the pressure of oils, water, cooling water, refrigerants, and many other substances.

All wetted parts are made of stainless steel, which speaks to the sensor's robustness. Fluid.iO offers absolute and gauge pressure sensors for CAN bus pressure measurement in a measuring range from -1 bar to 4000 bar. These measuring ranges necessitate, for example, that the process connection be individually adapted. Thanks to the sensor's modular design, we can implement this very easily.

Temperature measurement in air with TSL-CAN and in medium with TSR-CAN

We offer two main sensor designs for temperature measurement.

The first is the TSL-CAN-L, designed for measurement in air, which can measure ambient temperatures from -40°C to 80°C. The sensor housing consists of a coated aluminum tube and a protective cap made of PVC, PTFE, or aluminum.

The second design is the TSR-CAN. This is a screw-in sensor ideal for measuring temperatures in liquid media, such as hydraulic fluids. We also offer a high-temperature version of the TSR-CAN with cooling fins, enabling temperature measurements up to +150°C.

Combined pressure and temperature measurement DTS-CAN

Pressure and temperature are essential parameters that need to be measured in the vast majority of applications. Therefore, a combined acquisition of both process parameters is advantageous in terms of required installation space, cabling, and integration effort.

For this purpose, Fluid.iO offers, for example, the DTS-CAN. The DTS-CAN combines temperature and pressure measurement in a single sensor and makes both signals available simultaneously via the CAN bus.

Combined humidity sensor with temperature sensor KS-CAN

The KS-CAN is a climate sensor (humidity and temperature sensor) commonly used to monitor environmental conditions in a wide range of applications. This sensor can simultaneously measure relative humidity and temperature.

Multisensor Lub-VDT for combined measurement of viscosity, density and temperature

Pressure, temperature, and humidity are all suitable parameters for monitoring process and environmental conditions. However, with oil in lines or gearboxes, there are also applications where the medium itself or its condition needs to be monitored.

The compact Lub-VDT sensor enables the simultaneous measurement of viscosity (V), density (D), and temperature (T) in a very small form factor.

This makes the sensor ideal for condition monitoring, continuous measurements, leak detection, and oil cleaning.

CAN bus integration of all sensors with signal converters

In addition to sensors with their own CAN bus interface, there are also sensors that initially lack CAN bus integration. For this application, Fluid.iO offers measurement modules or signal converters that can be used as DIN rail modules. This allows us to connect all types of analog or digital inputs and configure various outputs. We also offer a multi-channel transmitter module, including direct connection of PT100 sensors.

Parameterization and evaluation of Fluid.iO CAN bus using sensors EK-CAN Tool

This allows the sensors to be recognized by the controller or measurement system. The Node ID and baud rate must be set. Fluid.iO CAN bus sensors are always delivered with a standard configuration. Each sensor undergoes 100% testing at our facility. It therefore retains its Node ID and baud rate setting.

We also provide DBC and EDS files for easy integration. If this isn't sufficient for seamless integration, we offer a small PC tool and an adapter with a USB-to-CAN interface that can be directly connected to a PC. With the evaluation tool, which connects directly to the sensor, and the PC tool, we enable configuration, testing, display of measurement signals, and much more.
